PRODUCT DEVELOPER:

Scope of Role:

As Product Developer, you will act as the operational backbone of the design process — managing timelines, coordinating developments, owning supplier communication, and ensuring the efficient progression of all samples and materials from concept through to SMS.

You are the key liaison between designers and suppliers, translating creative visions into actionable briefs, managing the many moving parts of sample development, and proactively problem-solving along the way.

You will act as the ‘product guardian’ — reviewing all samples and submissions that pass through Head Office, assessing alignment with brand standards, quality expectations, and development timelines. This role also plays a pivotal part in cross-departmental collaboration, supporting handover to Production and marking, and assisting with pre-line and sell-in tools for Wholesale and D2C teams.

This role requires a high level of autonomy, exceptional attention to detail, strong communication skills, and a deep understanding of fabrics, trims, and garment construction. It is a dynamic and fast-paced position for someone who thrives under pressure, juggles multiple deadlines, and is driven by operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

Development Management
  • Own all supplier communication, acting as the key point of contact for design development across both brands
  • Translate design vision into clear development briefs across fabric, trim, hardware, and silhouette
  • Troubleshoot development hurdles and provide practical solutions aligned with brand goals and timelines
  • Manage lab dips, strike-offs, and physical sampling (proto through SMS), ensuring all submissions are on time, brand aligned, and within budget
  • Oversee sample tracking, ordering, approvals, and all relevant documentation
  • Organise and maintain a clear system for storing submissions, swatches, trims, and physical samples
  • Review incoming samples and swatches, providing development feedback and flagging issues to relevant stakeholders
  • Ensure developments remain within target costings and seasonal RRPs
  • Prepare materials for internal review checkpoints and assist in formatting presentation decks when needed

Collection Handover & Cross-Department Collaboration

  • Prepare collection handover packs and product bibles for Production and Marketing
  • Manage the internal wash care process and flag new fabrics for testing in advance
  • Liaise with the wholesale team to support exclusive product development and custom requests
  • Assist on photoshoots including sample preparation and follow-up reviews
  • Coordinate internal collection feedback loops and ensure changes are actioned efficiently

Design Team & Process Support

  • Create and maintain development trackers, briefing documents, range boards, pre-line decks, merch plans, and BOMs and other shared tools for cross-functional clarity
  • Assist in the development and placement of prints and print instructions for suppliers in collaboration with Senior Designers
  • Support fabric and trim selection aligned to both creative vision and FOB goals
  • Take on a central role in meeting documentation and follow-ups — capturing key actions and ensuring accountability
  • Assist in CAD presentation documents for wholesale exclusives or internal planning
  • Own the digital and physical filing system for all development assets across seasons
Key Skills & Attributes
  • Highly organised with strong systems thinking and impeccable record-keeping
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to speak confidently on behalf of the design team
  • Detail-oriented with a strong memory for developments, conversations, and priorities
  • Proactive and solutions-focused, with the ability to manage competing deadlines and shifting priorities
  • Confident working with suppliers and managing the nuance between designer vision and commercial viability
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office and email; Adobe Illustrator/Photoshop skills are an advantage
  • Strong foundational knowledge of garment construction, fabrics, trims, and the end-to-end development lifecycle
